Ghost Flames
Got bored and had some bits of old candy and pearl I wanted to throw away, so I did a bit of ghost flaming .. It was shot straight onto the primer and was a really quick, rough job, but it does show how the effect will work on a real paint job …

Nice job, I want to ghost a paint job like that on my bike. I want to use
pearl white and then ghost in graphics that has a very slight blue hue to
them, like yours. How can I do that on pearl white. Thanks

@kawzx9r – In your case I’d lay on the graphics using blue, violet and
purple satin ghost pearl, but be warned that they won’t jump out of the
white the way they do with the black. Adding a bit of the same colours in
sparkle ghost might help. Mix your own … the paintwithpearl website is a
good source of low cost, high quality pearl powders.

Thanks for the speedy reply. Thanks for your advice also. I came across the
paintwithpearls and I do plan on using there pearls. It sounds like what u
suggested would be perfect for what I’m going for. I’m going to completely
“WHITE OUT” my bike, but when someone comes close to it or if I ride by and
the light hits it just right I want the graphics to kind of come to life
then. But from far away I want people to think it’s just a all white bike.
With that should I still do as u suggested. Thanks

@kawzx9r – It won’t show just when come closer, only when the sun hits it.
Beware of the fact that a bike tank and side panels are generally all
complex curves, so you won’t really see the whole design at a single
glance. You’ll only see the edges the sun shines over at the right angle
… like the red in my vid. You’d need to lay it on a bit thick to show it
up more vividly, and if you so that it will begin to color the white. Get
an old tank and practice … a lot.

@radiotrib, I didn’t know it would only show on the edges. My graphics are
going to be in a scroll pattern which is going to take alot of work so I do
want it to be seen but just lightly. I will take your advice and get a test
panel to practice on. If I can get it to look anything close to yours I’d
be happy. Thanks for your help, and I’ll send a vid response when done

What if I put a lil flake in it?

Hey! That ghost pearl effect looks awesome. Do you think I could get my car
painted a really dark grey (probably candy), and spray a little bit of blue
ghost? I would like it to look really grey and with a hue of blue when the
lights hits it, but I don’t want the whole car to look dark blue…

hey Alex. … If you spray over the grey with blue ghost pearl the youll
get a grey car that looks like it’s been ‘dusted’ with blue where the
sunlight hits it. The effect will be great. I’m not sure about oing it over
a solid pearl. Sometimes it will really pop, other timesit will be
swallowed in the reflections of the pearl underneath.

more Alex. … My black pearl/gold ghost flames/red candy seemed to work OK
but that was helped a lot by the candy. use test shapes and try out your
ideas first. The pearl powders from Paint With Pearl are so cheap you can
afford to experiment. Enjoy 🙂

@AlexSterring btw. .. grey candy doesn’t exist as far as I know. All blacks
are an absence of colour, candy needs to transmit light. Metallic or pearl
might work as a base.
