Painted flames on Rambler
I used clear contact paper to mask off the flames. Thanks to Mike in Maine for the advice. Saw him painting flames on his “Fireball” this summer using that method and figured I’d give it a shot. Thanks for all the help along the way to all the viewers. Thank you most of all to my wife for putting up with me making such a mess in your garage and having to walk through it all the time… cleaning up after me dragging it in the laundry room, and getting paint and bondo and primer on everything. π You’re the best wife ever!

Nice job Joshua, Mike’s shelf paper idea is a proven method now that you

I wanna be like Joshua!

thanks. Yeah, I told my son, I dould have paid someone a butt load of money
to do it, but I did it with only $50 worth of paint. All it cost is my
time, and I’m happy with it.. so I win. π

You keep talking about pinstriping… you have any examples of this George?
I know you know how. π and I’m young(ish) and impressionable… π
October 7, 2012 @ 8:45 am
thanks! π
October 7, 2012 @ 8:46 am
yeah, they’d be sure to know which car it was…. you have any examples ot
this pinstriping you’re talking about?
October 7, 2012 @ 8:47 am
Thanks buddy. I’m just tickled I pulled it off. π
October 7, 2012 @ 8:48 am
gives ya a lump in your throat…. all choked up….. (I said I wasn’t
going to cry) …. too late… lol..
October 7, 2012 @ 8:48 am
hahaha… Thanks Dad.
October 7, 2012 @ 8:49 am
heck, he inspired me… don’t know if it would have ever happened without
him. Inspiration and a great kick off with a great car.
October 7, 2012 @ 8:51 am
yes sir.. done it this morning.. looks “honkin” as Dad would say. π you’re
right.. I figured if it didn’t turn out right, I could just sand it and do
it over… the paint ain’t expensive, just time and effort… I got plenty
of that.
October 7, 2012 @ 8:53 am
yeah, me too.. completes the Red White and Blue look I wanted for the AMC.
and it was super easy to spray the white.
October 7, 2012 @ 8:55 am
Thanks Darrin, you are the expert. I know you’d have done a prettier job on
it but I’m a rookie on a shoe string budget. You are the painting guru….
what I did is in no way professional.. hope that came across in the video.
Thanks for watching sir. Have a great day. π
October 7, 2012 @ 8:59 am
yeah, that worried me too.. but at this point, I am figuring out how to fix
repair it and keep going forward… worse case scenario, I sand the whole
car down and paint it over… I ain’t skeert! Thanks for watching.
October 7, 2012 @ 9:14 am
I know how, but you would be better off having someone who is good at it do
it. It really isn’t a “do it yourself” kind of project unless you are very
artistic and have a really steady hand. If you were in Me with your dad I
would say to take it to Stan who has done it on your dad’s rat rod. It is
basically a thin line outlining your flames all the way around and finishes
it off really nice. Yours would look good with either yellow or black
outlining.

I am sure you can find someone in your area to do the job. Any reputable
sign shop should be able to handle it for you.

Yea, that’s right! Boo Hoo, Woo Hoo!
