This is the Modern American Family – The Business of Life (Episode 2)
Watch “How the US Workforce is Changing (Episode 1)” – http://bit.ly/1I4IvVW
The idea of the American family has changed dramatically over the past few decades: Young Americans are marrying later, finding marriage and parenthood to be less central concerns. But what does the structure of the modern American family mean for us, and how much is it costing us? To unpack the issue, we’ve enlisted author Ty Tashiro, New York Magazine’s Maureen O’Connor, and Mona Chalabi of FiveThirtyEight.
Introducing a new kind of talk show from VICE News. “The Business of Life” is a fresh perspective on the most important issues of our time, as told through the facts, figures, dollars, and cents that shape our world. Hosted by journalist Michael C. Moynihan, each episode brings together an eclectic panel of writers, thinkers, policy experts, and scholars to break down everything you need to make sense of the most complicated topics of our time.

“Powered by the bank of America” = bullshit
May 6, 2015 @ 11:13 am
Why are people in the comments mentioning Bank of America? I don’t get it.
May 6, 2015 @ 11:19 am
Brought to you by Bank of America with a message of “Better Money Habits”.
Funny that this is their slogan after requiring $20bln+ in TARP money to
keep them from sparking a second great depression. I guess they don’t teach
irony in business school.

12 people at my wedding. non religious wedding.

Feminists love the new deal. They get to have kids, take those kids away
from their father and force the father to pay for their lifestyles.

Its fairly unfortunate how disconnected this forum was from reality.
Reality is that marriage has decreased tenfold due to the fact that men are
no longer tolerating being taken for a ride by women. The question that
leads to this is one that was absent in this segment which I believe is the
whole reason why marriage is at a decline, that question being: What are
the benefits for men to get married vs the benefits for women to get
married… therein lies the answer… the benefits for women greatly
outnumber those for men, if there is any in the first place. Which in my
opinion, there isn’t!

I still think the way these videos are edited are a bit to quick. It’s easy
to think the hosts are speaking about the same topic when in fact they are
speaking about something else.
It is also sort of awkward to just cut to some guy asking a question after
spending 20-25 seconds on a topic.
If you guys at vice are hard set on a quick talk show, would it be possible
to put out a version that is longer with less cuts?
I like the content, I just have a problem with the delivery.

stupid girl: bla bla….mens sperm gets old and bad
everybody: *clap**clap**clap**clap*
May 6, 2015 @ 11:42 am
This format is terrible. Random facts are just being thrown around left and
right with panelists barely having time to comment on them. There’s no
in-depth analysis on anything. Just a few statements and you move on. This
is not at all informative.

I think it’s great we are seeing fact-based discussions of modern financial
struggles, but im taking away VERY LITTLE from this series. These “experts”
seem to just state the obvious: “Sometimes it’s cheaper to have a
roommate,” “Staying single is a choice now,” “Having kids is expensive.”

All made possible because of Bank of America? Get fucked. Murdoch can’t
help but jizz all over Vice no matter how hard they try to stop him.

For a second I though the host was Crispin Glover.

Totally one-sided and biased towards the atheistic side. There were no
panelists representing the traditional view of marriage. No mention of the
abundant research that shows the social disruption that results from the
breakup of the traditional family structure.
Wanting to be together with someone, liking someone, or being physically
attracted to someone, can not have the same strength or longevity as making
a life-long vow of commitment to each-other, through thick and thin, until
death do us part, before God. If a relationship is only based on feelings
and a loosely made promise, then the first few waves of adversity will
dismantle it like a house of cards. Unions have no solid foundation when
such promises are based on an unstable value system, where morality is
relative, where what’s right for you may not be right for me, and where a
man’s word can easily be broken when it is no longer convenient.
People shack-up for convenience or in pursuit of “happiness.” The moment
things no longer look “happy,” they feel free to move on and pursue
“happiness” somewhere else. The same is true to their approach at having
sex, producing children, and destroying children when they are
inconvenient. The reverent fear of God is fading fast in our society, and
its impact is evident. This is not something to celebrate or make light of.
This is the very cause for the societal breakup we see unfolding before our
eyes in the news.
You can call a Godless union “marriage” if you want, but that does not make
it so. I can buy a used military uniform and call myself a Marine. But
unless I have the training and the backing of the military, my insistence
in being considered a Marine is baseless and hollow, no matter how sincere
I am.
Marriage is a Judeo-Christian institution that is not based on feelings,
but rather on a conscious act of our will. It is not just a casual union of
two people who want to be together, but rather a 3 way union between God, a
man, and a woman. Change the formula or eliminate any component from it,
and what you will end up is an aberration of God’s design, which cannot
contain His blessings or benefits.

These degenerates do nothing but help the number of never married people
increase. This nation is fucked…
May 6, 2015 @ 2:09 pm
Lets put 40 yrs old sperm in your vagina and see if it is strong or not.
hahah..
Bullshit show.. Justifying unsocial behavior…
May 6, 2015 @ 2:26 pm
not a very religious person. but, would have loved to hear the opinion of
at least one (perhaps religious/educated) married person. this felt like a
conscious effort to push an atheistic/new-age agenda of “those podunk
country muslim/christian bumpkins gettin’ married using their GED’s as
kindle”. there is beauty in covenant and beauty in cherishing memories with
someone for a lifetime; instead of random partners you plan to forget about
(except, because the intrinsic biological nature of sex, you can’t). and
having kids is not a terrible idea … because you would not be alive if
that were so. still a fan of the show, just disappointed that there wasn’t
someone on the opposing side. just a bunch of agreeing that
religious/married people are stupid. to me, chasing hedonistic happiness is
noble, but not sustainable. y’all should check out john piper on hedonism.
also, there are so many other facts that were not discussed. such as
disease rates, depression rates, black households with single mothers,
divorce rates of people who “shack up” before marriage, etc. very agenda
driven, if you ask me. but, no one asked me.
May 6, 2015 @ 3:43 pm
they need a better host and guest.. this series sucks, bad….
May 6, 2015 @ 4:44 pm
asian feminazi: being single is the ultimate luxury to women!
yea, she would know from all her memories of past lives where she was
bonded by marriage… oh wait, she doesnt actually KNOW anything and is
just substituting trendy rhetoric she read in college for real life
experience.
most people realize rushing in to a marriage prematurely can be a foolish
prospect, but renouncing starting a family altogether just so you can spend
your whole life to “werk a jerb” for the bossman and become a total
narcissistic materialist is equally stupid and short-sighted. oh wait,
sponsored by Bank of America.
May 6, 2015 @ 8:03 pm
151 thinks that the show is executed way to fast. And I agree.
May 6, 2015 @ 9:52 pm
They didn’t even bring up the fact that laws favor women in divorce and
that rightfully so leads to fear in men about getting married. The reason
women can’t find a man to marry is because all of the smart successful men
know better. They look at the risk vs reward and say hell no I’m not
signing away my life.
May 6, 2015 @ 10:42 pm
No one is flooding Africa with mass immigration and forced assimilation
until there are no Black countries left. No one is flooding Asia with mass
immigration and forced assimilation until there are no Asian countries
left. But ALL White countries and ONLY White countries are targeted for
mass immigration and forced assimilation until there are no more White
countries. That’s genocide. Diversity Means Chasing Down The Last White
Person.
