(ABC57) WALKERTON, Ind. – A small-town pizza shop is saying they agree with Governor Pence and the signing of the controversial Religious Freedom Restoration Act.
The O’Connor family, who owns Memories Pizza, says they have a right to believe in their religion and protect those ideals.
“If a gay couple came in and wanted us to provide pizzas for their wedding, we would have to say no,” says Crystal O’Connor of Memories Pizza.
She and her family are standing firm in their beliefs.
The O’Connor’s have owned Memories Pizza in Walkerton for 9 years.
It’s a small-town business, with small-town ideals.
“We are a Christian establishment,” says O’Connor.
The O’Connor family prides themselves in owning a business that reflects their religious beliefs.
“We’re not discriminating against anyone, that’s just our belief and anyone has the right to believe in anything,” says O’Connor.
So, when Governor Pence signed the Religious Freedom Restoration Act into law, the family was not disappointed.
“We definitely agree with the bill,” says O’Connor.
When ABC 57 asked O’Connor about the negative backlash the bill has been getting for being a discriminatory piece of legislation, she says that’s simply not true.
“I do not think it’s targeting gays. I don’t think it’s discrimination,” says O’Connor. “It’s supposed to help people that have a religious belief.”
O’Connor says because she’s a Christian, she and her family don’t support a gay marriage and that is their right.
Kevin O’Connor, Crystal’s father, says he believes the negative backlash the bill and its supporters are getting isn’t fair.
“That lifestyle is something they choose. I choose to be heterosexual. They choose to be homosexual. Why should I be beat over the head to go along with something they choose?” says Kevin O’Connor.
The O’Connor family told ABC 57 news that if a gay couple or a couple belonging to another religion came in to the restaurant to eat, they would never deny them service.
The O’Connor’s say they just don’t agree with gay marriages and wouldn’t cater them if asked to.

Clearly these people don’t understand what “discrimination” means. They
talk about people wanting to “redefine” terms, yet they want to redefine
terms. People aren’t asking you to believe anything differently or do
anything immoral, they’re asking you to save your judgement and be
professional. Do you analyze every customer you have, or wonder where their
money is coming from, or if they’re morally in line with what you believe?
No, you don’t, so why single out gay people? Oh, that’s right, because you
don’t like them and therefore want to *discriminate* against them. These
people lack professionalism, compassion, understanding of their own
scripture. Essentially, they’re puppets for how their doctrine is being
taught by mainstream Christians. The rest of society will move on, they can
keep thinking they’re “persecuted”, but it’s their own doing. Even many
Christians don’t want to be associated with these people. Weed yourselves
out, thanks.

Uh, the one place you won’t see pizza being served… A GAY WEDDING! LOL!
April 1, 2015 @ 12:06 pm
ugh are we still stuck on this same bullshit in 2015? Gay people DO NOT
CHOOSE to be gay! Who would choose to be hated, called faggot and have to
deal with bullshit laws like this? Gays are BORN gay! Damn fucking get
over it already and stop hating.
April 1, 2015 @ 1:47 pm
He chose to be homosexual? LOL, WUT? What did he do, flip a coin?
April 1, 2015 @ 1:47 pm
Leave this family alone. If U disgree with them then feel free not to shop
in their place.
April 1, 2015 @ 2:08 pm
Replace “gays” with “blacks” and then try to claim this isn’t
discrimination

A free country means some people will do things you don’t agree with, that
you can run your business the way you see fit, that if you don’t serve a
segment of the community, the free market can provide options for those
whom you don’t serve and possibly drive you out of business. In a free
country, the government doesn’t have the power to force you to do things
the way others see fit.

He chose to be heterosexual? I want to know more of when he made that
choice, how long did he deliberate over whether he wanted man cock in his
ass or not. How was it even be a choice for him? Because personally I’ve
always known since birth I was straight.
I think these people that say it was a choice for them are just denying
their homosexual feelings because it’s not really something you have to
choose, you just know.
April 1, 2015 @ 4:23 pm
what does pizza have to do with homosexuality???
April 1, 2015 @ 6:21 pm
No Gay Couple would ever serve “Pizza” at their wedding, How Vulgar. Pizza
weddings are for shot gun weddings in trailer parks
April 2, 2015 @ 12:39 pm
I think that girl is been brain washed with all that religion mumbo
jumbo…but I think it is her constitutional right to decide who she wants
to provide catering or not, as the same way a person has the constitutional
right to decide who he/she wants to have sex with. If the pizzeria was a
governmental entity then that will be wrong but as the pizzeria is a
privately owned business, the owner has the right to decide according to
her religion believes, that’s the beauty of freedom and democracy, if I was
gay and someone does not want my business I will say F. U. C. K. and I will
take my business somewhere else, that’s my freedom too, I personally will
not buy at that pizzeria just because her religion believes are different
from mine, but I respect their decision and their rights to do so.

Some people think the conners are pulling a fast one. Within hours of the
story breaking, they had closed up shop, blamed it on threatening phone
calls from “the gays” and opened a gofundme account
April 2, 2015 @ 12:40 pm
I remember the day I chose to be heterosexual. It was a lot of thought
involved, but after doing myriads of calculations, plotting graphs, and
advanced calculus, I made the conscious decision to be attracted to busty
blonds with hourglass figures. The crushes I had in elementary/middle
school were a direct result of those calculations, not something that was
predetermined by my genes.
April 2, 2015 @ 4:32 pm
this stupid cunt grrr, ihope the buisness closes down for good!!!!! rot in
hell you fucked up religious nutt!!!
April 2, 2015 @ 4:48 pm
Why just why are so called Christians & Consertatives always on the lookout
for someone to HATE.
Well if we cant have Jim Crow laws then lets change the name to
“Christian Crow Laws”
April 2, 2015 @ 4:49 pm
If this is not a type of discrimination and it is truly based on religious
beliefs then stop cherry picking.
If your are the business owner then ask your self this question Are you
closed on the Sabbath do you serve shellfish do you wear clothing of two
blends do you serve unmarried women with children do you serve adulteress,
killers, rapist or or people that bear false witness. if you serve all of
these people except for one class, people that are gays you’re not
following your belief you’re using your religion to hide behind to push
your bigotry and hate agenda and that is why I think this is a for of
discrimination.
April 2, 2015 @ 5:42 pm
Why don’t you people try going to a Muslim-owned business and see if
they’ll cater a gay wedding? That’s right, Christians are safe targets
because you know they’re not going to cut your head off with a f*ckin meat
cleaver from the kitchen when you disagree with them. Btw, when asked if a
gay couple or a couple from another religion came in to eat, they said they
would NEVER deny them service. But that never got reported. The headline
stated they “denied service to same sex couple”. That NEVER HAPPENED. This
is a made up issue by a reporter searching for a story. I only wish this
same outrage existed for all the REAL discrimination, hatred, mistreatment,
torture, and murder of women and gays that happens everyday in the middle
east. Oh that’s right, those are the people who will actually fight back so
they’re off limits. So let’s destroy a small business pizzeria in
Indiana…yeah! Real courageous of you guys!
April 2, 2015 @ 7:33 pm
I wonder what would have happened if the owners were Muslim? Oh, I
forgot…..NOTHING.
April 2, 2015 @ 9:34 pm
MemoriesPizza have every right to choose whom they serve, for whatever
reason. It’s a good thing that their opponents have been so vicious in
their attacks towards Christians, otherwise the GoFundMe account wouldn’t
have $400,000+ being raised!
April 3, 2015 @ 7:42 am
if you chose the Christian life-style, even the Bible states, be ready for
condemnation, expect it, engulf it, welcome it, your god will love you more
for it. so many Christians really do cherry-pick every part of the bible
dont they.
April 3, 2015 @ 9:41 am
Nothing says tolerance like liberal tolerance and death threats.
April 3, 2015 @ 11:38 am
Gay/homosexual is not a choice…..those who say it is PROVE IT!! Go gay
for a day….can’t do it uh? THAT IS BECAUSE IT IS NOT A CHOICE YOU FUCKING
RETARD!!!
April 3, 2015 @ 12:45 pm
Who in the hell caters their wedding with pizza?
April 3, 2015 @ 2:19 pm
If you are having pizza at your wedding, you’ve got bigger problems than
Memories pizza. Clowns
